A legislative proposal that would enhance community violence prevention funding from the state receives a strong endorsement today from Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler.
Mayor Beutler says the additional funding would assist them greatly in their efforts to reduce crime and to build relationships with at-risk youth.
An Omaha mother, who lost her son to gun violence, is hopeful for passage of the proposal. Raquel Salinas said at Friday’s news conference that she doesn’t want another mother to go through what she did when she learned her son had been shot.
Lincoln State Senator Kate Bolz introduced legislation that would increase funding for the Nebraska Office Of Violence Prevention by one and a half million dollars. It would also create a new partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center for enhanced evaluations.
