Don't Blame The Servers For The Mask Mandate

By News Oct 9, 2020 | 9:12 AM

I am getting on a bit of a soapbox here, because stories that start like this piss me off.

Sure, masks are frustrating. No one likes them. I HATE them. Many of us (me, included) complain about them, but what I don’t do is blame the people working and enforcing their company’s or city’s mask requirements.

In Pennsylvania, Jaime, a server at a pub had to remind one table to wear their masks when they were walking through the pub, to and from the bathroom and through the bar. The place has signs posted explaining their need for this and the city’s requirement.

This didn’t go over very well with one table. When she asked them a number of times to wear their masks when they weren’t at the table. They would roll their eyes and make smart comments and not wear them anyway.

After the people at the table paid their bill and left, their server, Jaimie picked up their credit card slip, where their tip wasn’t just $0, it said MASK.

When your staff politely asks a customer to wear a mask until seated, this is how they are disrespected. Totally unacceptable. “YOU” should be ashamed of yourself!!

Sorry to offend, but what a bunch of dicks. When your bill is around $24, even a $2.50 tip is something (though I endorse 20%, during these times when the servers are helping fewer customers)

Thankfully, this story has made the round on the internet, thanks to her boss, and Jamie has been receiving tips from all over the place. Including customers pledging (and following through) on tipping 40% when they come in the next time.

See, there are good people in this world. The problem is, the bad ones hurt the good people. Just remember, those servers, in most cases, are working harder for less right now.
