He has been saying it in interviews, he’s been saying on social media, and now it could really happen.
Since President Donald Trump is leaving office, historically, Presidents have been known to commute/pardon a number of criminals and Joe’s lawyer seems pretty sure he will be released.

This time around the President will be commuting, according to reports, over 100 people. Some are in for big offences and others are in for smaller ones.
If you’ve watched the Mini-series on Netflix, Tiger King, you know that Joe Exotic is in prison for conspiracy to commit murder. He claims to be innocent.
Regardless, he was sentenced to jail and is still sitting there since the TV show aired this past year There has been talk, including from Joe himself, that the president may pardon him.
I’m told this is the limousine that will be waiting to pick up Joe Exotic if he receives the pardon tomorrow.
