That Annoying Check Engine Light

By News Mar 2, 2021 | 6:25 AM

How many hours have been driving around in that little light that looks like a car engine turns on? The question next becomes what do you do?

According to Kelley Blue Book, not many of us do the right thing when this happens. To be specific only 36% of us see the light and immediately (within a week) get our car to the mechanic within the 1st week. Then there is the 25% who see the light and do nothing…ever.

And of course there are people who are in between, like 29% of us, who see the light and eventually get our car to someone who can figure out what’s wrong.

And if you want to say that the statistics are gender biassed, hold on. Twice as many men then women are more likely to ignore the check engine light.

But age does fall in line with what you would expect. A majority of people over the age of 45 will take the hint that it’s time to get your car serviced when the light comes on.

If you happen to be one of those people who ignores the light, you may want to rethink it. While it may be just as simple as a loose wire or the need to change a bulb, it could also mean something small now is turning into something big later.
