Nebraskans Against Gun Violence Support President Biden's Executive Orders

Nebraskans Against Gun Violence supports President Biden’s executive orders designed to reduce and eliminate gun violence. While some Nebraska senators are working to remove training and background check requirements (LB236), a policy shown to increase gun deaths and injuries, it’s reassuring to have a President focused on initiatives that will reduce them.

We specifically support the appointment of David Chipman as the Director of the ATF. Nebraskans Against Gun Violence worked with him in 2020 to better understand the current annual reports published by the agency in order to use their data in the Nebraska Firearm Report, available at www.nagv.org. We found him to be knowledgeable, professional, and focused on the data.

Gun Violence is a public health crisis and we support serious funding of research, proven community programming, and using a combination of education, policy, and accountability to reduce gun violence across the United States, including Nebraska.

We are pleased to see federal guidance on extreme risk protection orders, often called “ERPO” or “Red Flag” laws. People that are a danger to themselves or others must be disarmed and also be given appropriate due process. We have and will continue to partner with policy makers and community stakeholders working to reduce gun violence in Nebraska on this policy.

Together, we can end gun violence.
